The Media Lost Its Mind When Venus Williams Spilled the Tea on Her Sister – Is it a Girl or a Boy?

Serena Williams announced to the world she was pregnant back in April of 2017… you may have heard the amusing story about her SnapChat slip where she accidentally made a public Snap of her baby bump before making an official statement. She followed it up with this beautiful photo and a short letter to her baby on Instagram. She is one lovely, happy new mom!

The next question on everyone’s mind, of course, was whether or not she and her fiancé, cofounder of Reddit, Alex Ohanian, were expecting a boy or a girl! Fans were looking for any sign and the media made an attempt to deliver after Venus was interviewed at the French Open by Eurosport…

Serena came to the event to support her sister and looked as though she was having a grand time. People did speculate on the lack of the sparkling engagement ring on Serena’s finger, but, according to the Daily Mail, friends of the couple have confirmed the couple is still happy as can be together. Serena was just dressing down to enjoy the game !

At one point in the match, Venus was down 3-2 to Kurumi Nara while busting her buns at the Philippe Chatrier court. Once her sister arrived, Venus seemed to turn up her fire power and took 7 games losing only one. The sisters must have a pretty special relationship to share a passion and drive each other forward right when it really counts!

Venus has a pretty mean backhand – a powerful stroke with earned her 12 of her 30 wins! Clay is not her preferred playing surface, but, you wouldn’t know it to see her glide like a gazelle across the court! She could probably still blow away any unfortunate opponent on a surface as lumpy as sand! While high on her impressive performance, she turned to the reporters and let a little something slip…

Serena has been pelted with questions about the sex of the baby – and she’s been pretty clear that she doesn’t want to know until the upcoming birthday finally arrives. At the Met Gala she attended with her fiancé, she told the press, “We’re waiting. [It’s] a surprise. We call it ‘baby.’” So, what could Venus have said to make fans so sure the baby was a girl?

Well, Venus did NOT come out and say, ‘ IT’S A GIRL!” or throw pink confetti. She told the reporters she and the other sisters playfully argue about how they each want to become “the favorite aunt.” How would that distinction be made so early you may ask?

Venus told Eurosport, “We’re like baby V, baby Lyn, baby Esher, we all want the baby to be named after us.” That’s it! Is that an accidental admission, or, are a bunch of sisters just giddy about their youngest sister’s first child and hoping, perhaps, that the baby is a girl?

Well, you know Serena wasn’t going to let that go – everyone in internet land trying to get specific about something she doesn’t even want to know. Even though they’re 50% correct, she took to Instagram and wrote her fans a note about what Venus said at the French Open…

How annoying must is be to have your life on display in this manner all the time? To explain every little thing you do or do not do? Serena’s letter describes what her family is like on such a personal level, you almost feel like a voyeur – like she feels forced to share something that is, truly no one’s business. Nonetheless, in classic Serena style, she handled the situation with grace and humor…

Serena wrote, “I think the surprise of knowing what you are going to have on that very special day you give birth is prob the best surprise you can ever have!” She explained her exploitation process of her siblings to get favors for as long as she can until her bundle of joy arrives! Sounds plausible, doesn’t it? Are you the baby in your family? Or the older sibling who knows all too well the indescribable sway the baby sibling has on everyone?
